Hannah Green | Director of Corporate Responsibility - GSK
Apr 10, 2017Hannah landed an in-house corporate role at Bupa with a charity background, and then leveraged that experience to move to GSK.
THE CHALLENGE
I kept coming up against the same obstacle - I didn’t have any in-house experience.
My background was in working at social enterprises and charities and I was looking to make the transition into the corporate world. However, I kept coming up against the same obstacle – I didn’t have any in-house experience.
THE SOLUTION
By working with Shannon through her Shift Careers program, I was able to completely re-frame my experience. Although I didn’t have any experience in a sustainability role working for a company, I had worked in partnership with lots of businesses and had engaged their sustainability and CSR teams. I was able to use my experience partnering with CSR and sustainability teams to sculpt a bio that was relevant for a more corporate audience. It gave me so much more confidence and credibility. We were able to use this experience to pitch me to a more corporate audience.
"Shannon gave me much more confidence to talk about what I had achieved rather than just narrate the story of what my responsibilities were."
She never put words in my mouth but got me to retell my story in a much more compelling way. When I came back to work with Shannon before moving to GSK, we honed this story again to prep me for my next job change.
THE RESULT
Almost as soon as I had worked with Shannon to totally revamp my CV, cover letter and LinkedIn profile, I got an interview and was offered the job as Responsible Business Manager at Sky. Not only did this mean a significant salary increase, but it landed me a dream job where I wanted to be right in the action of a well-respected sustainability team of a FTSE 100 business. Since then, I have worked with Shannon again to reframe my experience and now have moved on to a new role at GSK!
