Robbie Lock | Senior Manager, Sustainability at Hood
Nov 22, 2023On the hunt for an in-house role focused on sustainability, Robbie wanted to better clarify his skill set and professional background in order to be able to more confidently articulate his value to potential employers.
The challenge:
It was 2020, at the start of the pandemic, and I was ready for a change professionally. I’d dedicated my career to sustainability – having started out installing solar electric and solar thermal systems – but I was looking for a role in house/ I wanted to be doing the nuts and bolts, the ‘in the weeds’ work, and really get to know a company and the people working for it.
The solution:
I reached out to Shannon to help clarify to myself not just why I'm doing this work but what I'm doing and how I'm doing it, in order to be able to articulate that succinctly through a job interview, through a resume, or through a cover letter. I was also really wanted to piece together my career as I've had a meandering, winding journey in sustainability. It was really helpful to connect the dots and get some connectivity between the different roles that I've had over my career. So through interviews and offline work, Shannon was able to bring that all together.
The result:
When it came to the job interview for Hood [where Lock is now senior managing for sustainability] – and for others – I felt much more confident in myself and what I could bring to the table. I was able to communicate that in the interviews which was invaluable and absolutely contributed to me being able to get this position.
