Celebrating 10 Amazing Years!

I truly can't believe I'm celebrating this milestone! I am thrilled to mark a decade of writing for GreenBiz Group, a trailblazing media platform committed to accelerating the just transition to a clean economy.

So much has changed since then, both in terms of attitudes toward sustainability, and its potential career opportunities.

In January 2013 – when I filed my first column called Dear Shannon - it would be two years before the UN would push for global change via their 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, conscious consumerism was only in its nascent stages and, as a result, the appetite across organisations to invest in ESG talent was limited.

I saw this reflected in the questions posed to me in those early days, many from readers who harboured considerable passion when it came to making a difference but lacked a roadmap on how to convert that passion into a successful career.

In an effort to help, I've had the privilege of being part of the growing GreenBiz community, by:

• Hosting coaching corners and roundtables at SIX Greenbiz conferences and I will be at Greenbiz24 in February
• Publishing more than 45 "day on the life" articles for my Purpose & People column
• Publishing more than 35 advice articles for my Dear Shannon column

I’ve advised on navigating lateral career moves, how to leverage networks, and how to overcome imposter syndrome. And I’ve talked to fascinating experts from across the sector via our 57 Coffee & Connects, and now, Impact Leaders Lab events.

It’s been such a joy and I’m so pleased to say that – a whole 10 years later – while I remain a Greenbiz columnist, the ESG landscape has transformed.

Impact roles have quite simply exploded and the opportunities for ambitious professionals have never been more abundant.

It’s why I’m honored to continue as a contributor as GreenBiz launches its own exponential growth – and why I’m so excited for all the seismic changes set to come in the next decade too.
