There’s a saying that goes, ‘Support women on their way to the top, and trust that they will extend a hand to those who follow.’

It’s so important that female leaders provide a helping hand where they can to the generation of talent that comes after them.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that achieving gender diversity is the sole responsibility of women. Both male and female leaders have a critical role to play in removing unconscious bias from recruitment, setting internal goals and ensuring they create a diverse talent pipeline to feed into the next generation of business leaders.

But there’s also no doubt that women can face particular challenges, even prejudices on their journey to the top. And what they’ve learned along the way can be invaluable to the next generation of women that come behind them.

Arming women that might be earlier in their career with insight, inspiration and even mentorship, as well as acting as visible role models for what is possible, is such a fantastic – and rewarding - thing we can do for other women.
