Interview: Recruiting Skilled Talent in the Green Economy
Mar 17, 2020WorkingNation interviewed leaders in sustainability at the GreenBiz 20 Conference in Arizona as part of their #WorkingNationOverheard campaign.
Shannon Houde is the founder of Walk of Life Coaching, the first international career development and talent advisory business focused on the sustainability, CSR and impact sectors.
In this clip, Shannon talks about one of the biggest challenges for companies who are looking to ramp up their sustainability effort and find skilled talent for work in the green job space. “From a recruiter perspective, we look for candidates who are really able to work with people,” Shannon advises, “this is a people-agenda and there’s no way around that.”
Shannon’s passion lies in the one-on-one coaching with individual clients who are looking to make a shift in their careers, professionally develop on the job, or are looking for help on how to deliver in their impact roles. She has trained more than 1,000 professionals over 3,000 hours to maximize their personal brands to advance their impact careers. Combining consultancy with in-house roles, she has worked at Adobe, GE Capital, Barclays, Deloitte, and WWF. She has recently supported the growth of leading consultancies, BSR and Quantis, as a contract recruiter, executive coach, and talent strategist.
Fun Fact: Shannon started an ecotourism business down in Patagonia, Chile which aimed to help tourists do better to leave no trace behind when they go and see these beautiful parts of the world. That led to her getting her MBA at Thunderbird where she focused her curriculum around corporate responsibility.
